Even though paper ordering has ended, you still have until June 25 to order your school supply kits online. Just follow the instructions on the attached order form to ensure you have your child’s school supply kit for next year. Weekly Update (5/30/17)

School Supplies for Next Year – EPI School Supply Cover Letter | EPI Order Form | EPI Must Also Get 2017-2018
Paper order forms for the EPI school kits are due this Thursday, June 1, but you have until June 25 to order online. Submitting a paper order forms means you do not have to pay sales tax, whereas online orders do.

The school supply kits make it easy for you to get all the required supplies for your child for next year – and the kits are often cheaper than if you picked the items out at the store (even with sale prices). We All Scream for Ice Cream – Dairy Queen Dine Out 2017
FTC decided to add one final dine out to its calendar – Dairy Queen!!! Celebrate the end of the school year and earn some money for the district. The dine out is next Wednesday, June 7 at the Dairy Queen on St. Charles in Villa Park, so please be sure and mark your calendars. You MUST present the attached flyer when ordering.

Together we accomplished some great things – like getting the Albright scoreboard and the Swartz stage curtains, funding field trips and parties and providing holiday meals for those in need. Scholastic Book Fair and Learning Celebration
Thank you to everyone who attended the Learning Celebration and Scholastic Book Fair this past Thursday. The weather was perfect and lots of families came to enjoy the food and activities, browse for books and visit with district friends. Thanks to the board and Dr. Correll for assisting with the grilling, and the teachers and volunteers for helping with the activities and concessions.
FTC Meeting and Positions
Tonight (Monday, May 22) is the last FTC meeting of this school year, and the one in which we plan the events for next year. Weekly Update (5/15/17)

Scholastic Book Fair – Spring ’17 Book Fair Flyer
This Thursday, May 18 from 3:30-7:30 p.m. there is a Scholastic Book Fair being held at Stella May Swartz school. Last year over $5,800 was raised from book fairs, which went to buy books for the school libraries. So please stop by on Thursday to support the book fair! A flyer is attached with further information.

Learning Celebration
The Learning Celebration event is also being held this Thursday, May 18 from 4-7 p.m. for Swartz and Salt Creek students, along with the book fair. It is at Stella May Swartz. There will be activities, a DJ, a bouncy house, hot dog meals and concessions for sale. The popular snow cones will be available (weather permitting). Please stop by Swartz on Thursday for dinner or a snack, to buy some books at the book fair or just to celebrate!  All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Positions – 2017-18 FTC Open Positions
FTC has started filling positions for next year. The organization does a lot to make the school district a community and to raise money for the schools so they can maximize the amount they spend on educational materials. Please review the attached positions available to see if there is anything you are able to help with. Committees are a minimal time commitment and are typically only active part of the year, if you are looking to do something that doesn’t take a lot of time. Spirit Wear

Thank you to everyone who supported the dine out at the 2 Jersey Mike’s locations a couple weeks ago. The dine out raised over $200 to help out the school!

Jersey Mike’s Dine Out – Jersey Mike’s Dine Out
This week – from Wednesday, May 3 to Sunday, May 7 there is a dine out at the Jersey Mike’s locations in both Elmhurst and Oakbrook Terrace! That’s 5 whole days of a dine out – giving everyone a chance to pick up lunch or dinner once or even twice. All you need to do is bring in the attached flyer when ordering and the district will get 15% of the sale! There are even coupons attached to the flyer to make it a deal for you.

Family Sports Night
Thank you to everyone who attended the Family Sports Night event this past Friday, April 28 at Albright. There were many happy faces enjoying the sports activities!

Teacher Appreciation
This Tuesday, May 2 is Teacher Appreciation Day. FTC provides lunch for the school and district staff at all 3 buildings to show how much we appreciate all the hard work the staff put in to make Dist. 48 a great place for children to attend!  We in FTC feel very fortunate to have such dedicated, enthusiastic teachers and staff instructing our children – they are what makes District 48 a great district to live in!

Family Sports Night – Family Sports Night 2017
Family Sports Night is this Friday, April 28 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Albright. Children can play hockey, basketball, kickball, four square, bags and other activities. We will be selling concessions “on the go” bags and have a raffle with a lot of great prizes, such as Cubs items, Sky Zone passes, a Microsoft party, a Fire tablet and more! This event is open to all students in District 48. As per new policy, an adult must accompany child(ren) and be present at the event—unaccompanied children will not admitted. Please see the attached flyer for event details.
 

Jersey Mike’s Dine Out – Jersey Mike’s Dine Out

School Supplies
Do you really enjoy shopping for school supplies?  If not, we have a solution for you! FTC will hold its annual school supply kit sale for the 2017-2018 school year. Albright Families: Student Council’s Coins for the Cure Fundraiser Ends Wednesday! – Albright Coins for the Cure 2017
The Albright Student Council is holding its annual Coins for the Cure fundraiser until April 12th to raise money for two cancer charities: The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (www.LLS.org) and The Ross K. MacNeill Foundation (www.R33M.org). As part of this, Albright students have been invited to donate and are having a fun Penny War Competition between the grades! Please see the attached flyer for more information on Coins for the Cure and the charities.   • Barnes & Noble Book Fair/Celebration of the Arts – Thanks to all the students and staff who participated in this event! For the bookfair we had $4,733 in sales, which means the libraries will get $831 to purchase books!
  • Dominick’s Dine Out – Thank you to everyone who ordered from Dominick’s for our dine out over spring break. We made about $100 on the dine out!
  • Swartz Stage Curtains – We wanted to again thank all the district families and staff, and community supporters who contributed to the capital campaign this year. The stage curtains and window coverings were unveiled this past Thursday, followed by a wonderful performance from the Swartz Drama Club. Please stay tuned for information about the Albright scoreboard unveiling.

Barnes & Noble Book Fair & Celebration of the Arts! – B&N Celebration of the Arts Flyer | Bookfair Vouchers

Please join us on Tuesday, March 21st from 4 to 8 pm as we host our annual Celebration of the Arts event in conjunction with our Barnes & Noble Book Fair. This year, we will be using vouchers to ensure the district gets full credit for all purchases made during the fair. Please feel free to share these with friends and family and encourage them to attend this fun event!

Activities will include performances from both our orchestra and band members, door prize raffles, a free kids activity table, and of course our own mini art gallery as Barnes & Noble will feature artwork from our district children throughout the store. Important Update Regarding FTC Events

District Families:

The FTC leadership group has been in discussion with the school regarding an issue that has arisen with regards to FTC events. An increasing number of children have been coming to FTC events unaccompanied by adults. FTC events are intended to be family events, with an adult attending the event with the student(s). Both FTC and the school are concerned about the safety and liability of having children unaccompanied at these events.

In order to ensure that all students are properly supervised, we are going to have a few changes with regards to entry at FTC events. These procedures will take place starting with Family Science Night on March 8.

  • Students must enter the event with a parent or other adult
  • The family will be asked to sign in for the event
  • Students will be issued a wristband
  • Adults must stay at the event – none of our events are “drop off” events
  • For indoor events, once students are in the building they need to stay in the building unless they are leaving for the night
  • 7th/8th grade student volunteers may come to events unaccompanied by an adult for the duration of their volunteer work — they will be given further instructions prior to the event

Thank you for your understanding on this issue. The goal is to keep all students safe, and for all families to have a great time at these events!

Weekly Update (3/6/17)

Capital Campaign
We are very excited to announce that we have completed the capital campaign to fund the Albright scoreboard and Swartz stage curtains!!!! The schools are developing a schedule for installation – which we hope to finish before year-end. We wanted to thank all the district families who supported this project, whether through donations or by supporting your Albright student who participated in monthly activities to raise money for the scoreboard. More information to come.

Family Science Night
Family Science Night is next week – Wednesday, March 8. At this event children learn about STEM topics through hands-on exhibits that are designed to create interest and excitement about science topics. This year we are having a “Mad Scientist” show. Please plan on attending this fun, educational event – one of the district’s favorites!

Family Science Night Volunteers
Family Science Night requires lots of volunteers to make it special for kids. We welcome any parents or caregivers, as well as any 7th and 8th graders as volunteers for this event. Please contact Kate Beckwith via text @ 630-667-3330 or e-mail @ [email protected] for further details.

Salt Creek is having its winter room parties this Wednesday, Dec. 21 and Swartz is having its parties on this Thursday, Dec. 22. Holiday Shoppe
We wanted to thank all the children who participated in the Holiday Shoppe last week, and the families that funded their shopping. We hope the children had a good experience at the shop and that the gifts they selected for family members bring a lot of joy this holiday season. Swartz Winter Wonderland Dance
Thank you to all the parents who helped out at the Winter Wonderland dance for Swartz students this past Friday. We hope the children had a fun time dancing the night away!

Save the Date
The Taste of Dist. 48 event is on Monday, Jan. 23, 2017 which is only a couple of weeks after winter break. This popular event allows you to get samples from area restaurants and then vote on your favorites. It is $5/person or $20/family, which is a great value for the amount of food you get. Please be sure and mark this on your calendar!
